New York Fashion Week Street Style - Dress Like A Boy, Look Like A Girl

Since I was working New York Fashion Week (NYFW), I kept receiving spur of the moment invites to more shows than I originally anticipated attending. This required me to improvise with the clothes I'd packed to create new outfits. Since time was such a huge factor for me, because I was working with a designer, there was very little left for shopping before the menswear show. Typically, NYFW suggests you to do a lot of walking after the shows, so my first thought of course was, "How can I stay comfortable?"

I wanted to avoid looking pretentious, yet effortless and laid back, but I had less than 15 minutes to come up with something for the most fashionable week ever! Of course, I naturally went with my classic all black look. This allowed me to keep myself slightly feminine with a textured, cropped top turtle neck (that surprisingly kept me warmer than I thought it would), a long black oversized coat, and I decided to keep it chic with a loose, vintage wool pant, giving a Yohji Yamamoto feel to the ensemble. Since a lot of walking was going to be done, I ditched the heels and said hello to my new "bae," my nikes! The shoes really pulled the whole street style look together, and allowed me to break away from that "Slave to Fashion" look. There's something about a woman that can still be stylish in sneakers while keeping it comfy. To top off the outfit, I threw on a neutral colored beanie, giving me more emphasis to the street vibe.

This is a dope outfit idea for a any Ready-to-Wear show or event. When you're putting an outfit together for NYFW, or really just any event, remember there are no rules. Try on things you wouldn't normally try on. Don't be afraid to look short and stubby. Playing with garment lengths can take you from 5'3" to 5'7". Sometimes you just have to experiment around, or you'll never know. When in doubt keep it easy and fun!

Winter Outfit to Try

Grey has for sure been the color (or the non-color) of the season, especially when it comes to outerwear. It's no longer depressing. Grey is a fashion color, signifying good taste. It has been sported by labels that celebrate off-duty chic. I paired this sophisticated coat with a fun, black lace-up bodysuit. As you've probably seen, lace up is the rage this Fall/Winter season. We saw them all over the runway. The denim of choice is a pair of waxed high-waisted jeans. The wax coating gives this dark washed jeans a more dressed up look. I actually was not sure about these jeans when I first saw them in the store, but my friend insisted that I try them on. Thank God I did because I absolutely love them! A lot of my friends who were with me also got this exact pair because of how great they made their legs look. I'm a huge fan of these jeans because they fit so well, they elongate my legs,  and mostly because of how good these jeans make my butt look! Of course I'm wearing my favorite thigh high boots to complete the look. Now I just need New York to warm up ASAP! (Find out why in my next post!)

It's snowing everywhere!

Easy Outfit to Survive New York in Style

A few weeks ago, I visited New York and I had a blast exploring the city. The weather for the first few days were cold, but bearable. It was on the last day of my visit that it decided to snow! Good thing I packed a nice warm coat. So how do you still look chic despite needing to wear a big coat? Easy! Keep it simple. Underneath my camel coat, I decided to go all black. I paired a black rib knit turtleneck with my black skinny jeans. When traveling, I strategize to pack light, so I brought these black jeans that can be worn in multiple ways. You could switch the black jeans with a lighter wash jean instead, and it would still look cute.  Finishing the outfit with the warm camel color jacket to pull the whole look together. I decided to wear my Over The Knee Boots, which added another layer to the outfit. Over The Knee Boots tend to come back into fashion each year, so it's always worth investing in a good pair like Stuart Weitzman's, or even something more affordable like Steve Madden. I prefer my toe nice and pointed. (The style of the boot, not my actual toe, people.) This style adds a classy and elegant touchTo complete this look, I wore big sunglasses to keep the outfit chicIt also hid my look of confusion of where I actually was when trying to find my way around the city! You'll even probably have people coming up to you asking you for directions!
